my older cat always cleans the ears of my young cat if he is not humping him to the point of spotlessness constantly. the older cat was the resident cat and his housemate passed away, he seemed depressed so I brought him a new 8 week old rescued kitten(cat toy) and it brought him back to life! the older one quickly adopted the youngster and it has been that way since. it just makes for less ears to be cleaned.
