Hi, my name is Leigh and I am a plurkoholic!
The interweb is a buzz with the newest microblogging/social network offering, Plurk. If you haven’t tried it out, you really should. For me, it has to be the best social tool to hit the net in years, it is fantastic!
I tried pownce when it first came out and it didn’t grab me. Gave twitter a go recently and didn’t feel too comfy there either.
So what exactly is plurk? For those familiar with social networks, it is a bit of a twitter clone, but there are also a lot of differences. It’s a super hybrid of IM, forums, chatrooms all rolled into something new and nifty. It can be a bit confusing once you start out, but you jump in and pick it up quickly.
The long weekend in Australia saw a huge influx of users and activities and a nice little community has been developing. Not really intentional, but the majority of the friends I have added on there are Aussies. But I am loving having a wide range of people with similar interests to interact with.
Being fairly new, and with the API only just recently released, there aren’t too many tools for Plurk. There is Top Plurk users, which ranks users (though it seems a little borked, with a few people missing) using location tags so you can see where you rank by karma. My karma with graph your karma. Plurkiverse and Plurkable is a good place for news and info. And there is also a Plurk Firefox sidebar addon. There is even a Plurk wallpaper for those suitable addicted.
What other Aussies are saying about Plurk..
So come on, you know you want to..come and give Plurk a try!
Edit to ad: Kelley has blogged yet again about the fun of plurk. I know nothing about what she is talking about..she was a bit pissed and confused I think LMAO

Hi Leigh, thank you for the mention! Stumbling this
It sounds a little silly but I’ll give it a whirl. Is there a blog widget?
Only the name sounds a little silly, but it is pretty much compulsory for a startup now days isn’t it?
Yes, there is a blog widget, I have it here in my sidebar.
Hey Leigh, thanks for the link on this blog post, which is excellent by the way. My take is that twitter is more condusive to unintentional cliques, which outsiders feel uncomfortable pushing-in on. Plurk is more open by design, and the threaded conversations make it much more accessible to outsiders. Gotta go now, I’m missing too much on plurk!
