Mother’s Day wish list

I cannot believe the ugly crap that fills the shops in preparation for Mother’s Day. Clearly I am not the target market, I can’t begin to understand who would want all those fugly slippers, pjamas and flowery shit!

Firstly, we do most of the shopping, so I think we are quite capable of buying our own PJs if we are so inclined. And they certainly aren’t going to be shit covered in bears and love hearts. Also, Mum doesn’t want a bloody iron, or a blender..unless it’s to be you over the head with!

So what is on my wish list?

I could replace my Mother’s Day present from 2yrs ago, but I am still quite attached to it. And it doesn’t do that random rebooting thing too often.

I’ve already bought myself one present, because honestly..if I left it up to this lot I’d get nothing!

Have been wanting one of these necklaces for ever, but could never really find the right design. Our list of personalised handstamped jewellery at That’s Noice was super handy. I received this beautiful piece from Heart on your Wrist just in time yesterday. My only gripe is I wish my children were born in a month with a nicer birthstone, inconsiderate of them wasn’t it?

This is what REALLY want, but allas..it is sold out EVERYWHERE and the backorder list is ginormous. So looks like I will be waiting awhile.

So maybe this could be a good substitute. I loves me some doof doof, only reason I like driving manpets car. Would love some of my own.

What’s on your Mother’s Day wish list?

Happy Anniversary

Happy 2nd Wedding Anniversary, Manpet!

It’s OK, I don’t mind that you forgot. It is understandable when you have worked 40hrs in the last 3 days. And we both know it isn’t the real one. 2yrs doesn’t seem at all exciting. Just don’t forget the big one (I’m not telling you when :P ) 15yrs this year! Will be expecting something good for that one ;)

I once said I loved you more than more than iPhones, cupcakes, macbooks and kittehs. I take that back… pffft..who loves iPhones these days :P ? And we can’t forget the puppies! But even then, doesn’t come close. You are super awesome xxxx

Super cute letters care of Typo, 3 for $10..bargain! And the canvas is from there too…<3 that shop!

Lazy parenting 101

Since I started working a fulltime 9-5 job, the manpet has become the house bitch (he loves it when I call him that) Doing the school run and a lot of the afternoon running around to swimming, muay thai, netball and such.

But he has been left short handed at work, and with printing for the NSW election ballot papers coming up this week, he has needed to do lots of extra hours. Most days he is starting at 4am!!!1 to fit the hours in, so we still have time for afternoon activities. But there was just a day or 2 a week we couldn’t cover.

With some juggling, I am able to start and finish an hour earlier. But that still leaves them just under an hour, parentless. Cats make useless babysitters, and Dogs..my god those things are naughty.

So, we turn to THE parenting device of the 21st century, computers and the interwebs!

Ahh, where would we be without Skype? There are many Instant messenger services around, But Skype seems to be the must have  service these days. Have never really got into Skype until I started using it for work. We use it for anything from chatting with interstate developers, chatting with the boss when he is out of the office, but the most common use in chatting with my desk buddy who is not even 1m away.

A new use I have discovered this week, parenting via Skype!

Now, my kids aren’t little, oldest is 12, youngest is 8. I know some will think, woah, that is too young..I can live with that. Wasn’t a decision made lightly. But the boy is responsible..mostly…and he is easily bribed. My Mum is 2mins up the road, and the good friends/neighbours over the back fence are home at this time.

We have tried it out for a few days, and it seems to work quite well. I can watch and help them do their home work…give out the afternoon chores list…and get to talk to the puppies (cats aren’t interested in skype)

Now if only I could send them food via Skype and I may never need to come home! I am joking of course…mostly.

And Mother of the year award goes to…

So Hayden had complained of sore knees for a few months. They were never swollen, limping or anything like that.

The boy is huge! He is going to hit 6ft this year I am sure..and he’s 11!!! He has done lots of growing, which I’m sure comes with some pain.. so I had just brushed him off and put it down to growing pains.

He started Muay Thai Kickboxing a few weeks ago, and had complained a little more than usual. Manpet is on holidays so I sent him off for a fun filled day of waiting around to see the dr, then some more waiting for xrays, and the so more waiting.

Turns out it wasn’t just growing pains, and I am a bitch. He has Osgood Shaclatter Syndrome, which is fairly common in boys his age and while painful, isn’t nearly as serious as the strange medical centre doctor had led them to believe.

“He’ll never be able to run or play sports again, EVER” she told them. So of course they thought he was dying and would have no legs and be in a wheelchair before his next birthday by the time they had gotten to the car and rang me.

I felt terrible. I guess they are pretty much like a heal spur..but on your shin. Something that I suffered with, and bitched about for about 6mths last year.

Funny though at first, now that it had a name, it seemed to make him limp now and it was much more painful. Mummy doesn’t buy into that shit mate, suck it up princess and get yourself some frozen corn.

Some physiotherapy, stretches and some ice and I think he’ll be able to keep his legs. And he still manages to run OK when Mum is chasing him round the house.
